JPJ Letter of Endorsement
Converting a Malaysian driving licence to a Singapore driving licence requires one important document: a Letter of Endorsement from the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ). This letter confirms the breakdown of your licence classes and the original dates of issuance — information required by the Singapore Traffic Police (TP).
The good news?
The entire process at JPJ is much easier and faster than most people expect. I recently obtained my Letter of Endorsement from JPJ Negeri Johor (Taman Daya), and the whole experience took less than 40 minutes. Here’s a complete guide so you can breeze through your application too.
⭐ What Is the JPJ Letter of Endorsement?
The JPJ Letter of Endorsement (also known as Pengesahan Maklumat Lesen Memandu) is an official document that lists:
- Your Malaysian driving licence class(es)
- The date(s) each class was issued
- Your personal licence details
Singapore’s Traffic Police requires this letter for licence conversion.

🕒 My Experience: 40 Minutes from Start to Finish
Surprisingly, the process at JPJ Taman Daya was straightforward. As long as you bring your documents, you can complete everything within 30–40 minutes, including photocopying.
📄 Documents to Prepare Before Visiting JPJ

Prepare these in advance to save time:
- Photocopy of NRIC
- Photocopy of Singapore Work Permit / S Pass / EP
- Original Malaysia driving licence
- Original NRIC
- Original work pass
- RM10 for the processing fee
If you forget to photocopy, don’t worry — there’s an onsite photocopy shop. (Details below.)
🚗 Parking Tip
Parking inside the JPJ compound is limited.
It’s advisable to park outside to avoid going in circles looking for a spot.
🧭 Step-by-Step Guide to Getting the JPJ Letter of Endorsement
1. Head to the “Urusan Lesen Memandu” Section

Once you enter the JPJ compound, walk to the right side.
Look for the signage: “Urusan Lesen Memandu.”
At the left counter, tell the officer you want to apply for a letter to convert your Malaysian licence to a Singapore licence.

They will give you a form titled:
“PENGESAHAN MAKLUMAT LESEN MEMANDU MALAYSIA BAGI TUJUAN MEMOHON LESEN MEMANDU SINGAPURA.”

2. Photocopy Your Documents (If You Haven’t Already)
If you haven’t prepared photocopies:
- Walk out from the “Urusan Lesen Memandu” office
- Turn right and walk straight
- On your right, you’ll see a blue sign:
“Kurnia Insurans, Wakil Insurans KAROZA ENTERPRISE”

Photocopy services are available here.

Once done, return to complete your application form.
3. Get Your Queue Number
After filling up the form, go back to the left counter to collect your ticket number.
4. Submit Your Documents & Make Payment
When your number is called:
- Hand over all your documents
- Pay the RM10 fee
The officer will verify your licence details and process your request.

5. Collect Your Letter (Within 10–15 Minutes)
Processing usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the crowd.
Once ready, you’ll receive your Letter of Endorsement, complete with all the required licence details.
That’s it — you’re done at JPJ!
